2013: Gigs to watch out for – January & February.

2013showsThe start of the year can be a bit of a slow burner for us gig-goers, with everyone recovering from the festive season and few traveling so close to the holidays for a tour. Luckily, though, there are some shows on offer these first few weeks and we decided to do a little rundown of some of our top recommendations for the UK shores in January and February.

First up, one of the best bands to have a pint to. DROPKICK MURPHYS are a fantastic live band, with their blend of Celtic tradition and a punk flavour making for one hell of a live performance. Luckily for us they’re doing a full UK run, so there’s plenty of opportunity to go have a drink and a dance to Boston’s finest. With their great new record ‘Signed & Sealed In Blood’ due to drop just before tour, you’d be best to get yourself to their nearest show!

Some bills have a quality headliner. Others pack quality from top to bottom. Packed with big names, ASKING ALEXANDRIA will be hitting the UK’s shores alongside the acclaimed MOTIONLESS IN WHITE and British favourites WHILE SHE SLEEPS. With each band bringing with it a large and diverse fanbase, this is set to be a tour that brings a different vibe not only every night, but through every set. Well worth the ticket price.

THE BLACKOUT seem to always be on the road, but that’s okay – since, you know, they’re pretty darned good at it. This will be the run surrounding the release of their new record ‘Start The Party’, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Trekking around the country alongside SONIC BOOM SIX, it seems January is going to kick off things with a party, and one you should be in attendance of.

Sometimes a nice blend of American quality and homegrown talent can be just the treat. Luckily, WE THE KINGS are gracing our shores at the tail end of January and bringing one of our new favourites BLITZ KIDS along with them.

January made for a nice start, but in February things start to get a little crazy. First up, the annual KERRANG! TOUR hits the road. Known for diverse and ever-changing line-ups, 2013 proves to be one of the biggest and differing yet. With BLACK VEIL BRIDES continuing their course for world domination as headliners, CHIODOS making their UK return with Craig Owens at the hilt and both TONIGHT ALIVE and FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS filling out the rest of the bill, the K! tour may split the masses with some names, but will certainly prove one hell of a show to witness.

We admit, we weren’t 100% sure how we’d feel about anything Frank Carter did post-Gallows, but his work with PURE LOVE simply blew us away. Different to anything we could expect, the band have been around the country in many support slots. Now, though, they’re kicking things off with a headliner and bringing SHARKS along for the ride. Lovely.

There are some shows that just fill you with excitement upon the announcement, and DEFTONES was most certainly one of them. Their first UK run since the release of their sublime new record ‘Koi No Yokan’, it seemed there was little that could make the show better. Oh, wait. Then they went and added bloody LETLIVE as their support! Regardless of what show on this tour you attend, we can say with near certainty that this will be one of the shows of 2013.

We’ve always had a soft spot for FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND, who played soundtrack to many a teenage year. Still going strong and selling out venues, they’ve never disappointed in a live vicinity and we can’t see a day they ever will. Embarking on another intimate tour, the band offer fans yet another treat in seeing them promote their new album in club shows.
