Review: The Defiled – HMV Forum, London – 20th June 2012.

Fresh from their recent performance at this year’s Download Festival, London metallers The Defiled had the privilege of supporting Amercian rockers Godsmack when they strolled into London for a one off show, their first since 2003! Taking to the stage at 8pm sharp, The Defiled had half an hour to put on one of their killer performances, and we were there to capture the action.

Opening with one of their better known tracks, and one of our favourites “Call To Arms”, they were here filled with enough energy and enthusiasm to be headlining this room, and judging by the amount of fans rocking their merchandise, it could easily have been mistaken. The fun thing about The Defiled is that not only are they a fantastic British band to listen to, but they are brilliant to watch; keyboardist and backing vocalist The AvD is a fantastic example as he pulls many a face and throws his keyboard around as if it weighs the same as a feather, careful not to blink as you will miss something!

From debut album ‘Grave Times’, “Black Death” and “Blood Sells” saw a creepy and slightly bloody addition to their set including two cloaked women with masks stalking the members around the stage, to which bassist Vincent Hyde and guitarist KK Curse suffered an ill fate, having their throats slit squirting those in the front row with blood…tasty! Rocking hard and heavy, front man Stitch D was in total control tonight and newest addition to the band Needles looked well and truly settled behind the drum kit; everyone just seemed like they were on top form and having fun.

Pumping out a new track for fans old and new, “As I Drown” went down a treat, and before you knew it the set was ending with another well known favourite in the shape of “The Resurrectionists”. We would have loved to have seen more to be perfectly honest; tonight they proved that they can be headlining venues like this in no time and having just won Metal Hammer’s Golden God award for Best New Band, there are bright things on the horizon and we can’t wait to see them back here soon with a brand new album – watch this space.
