It’s been known for a while that Velvet Revolver have been searching for a replacement for Scott Weiland and that they had rehearsed with someone who could possibly fill his boots. The mystery as to who that is may now be over.
Speaking to numerous sources, drummer Matt Sorum has dropped some hints and they seem to be pointing at Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor. Talking to Billboard, Sorum said:
He’s a guy we’ve had our eye on, but the timing wasn’t right. Weiland was available. He was out of Stone Temple Pilots. It wasn’t like we went and said, ‘Hey, dude…’ He came to us, basically, like, ‘Hey, I’m out of my band. I’ve got time. Let’s do this.’ And it’s a similar situation with this particular individual.
When Billboard then asked Corey if he was the singer in question he simply said, “To be continued!” and laughed. It’d be quite incredible to fit this in alongside his current Slipknot and Stone Sour plans. Of course, this still remains a rumour.
