It was previously reported that Stoke-on-Trent’s council had been handed a petition with 318 signatures requesting to build a statue honouring two legends of rock – Slash of Guns N’ Roses and Lemmy of Motorhead. Today, it has been confirmed that the request has been rejected.
Matt Wilcox, a labour councillor and music promoter, said, “I think this idea is a complete waste of time and effort, and the petition was the wrong way for this to be brought to us. It’s actually quite selfish to focus on these two specific artists and I think there should be a more diverse monument to the range of that this city has produced. If it was a bit broader then it could be a fantastic contribution to Hanley’s Cultural Quarter.”
The council are allegedly looking into plans to a broader tribute.
